About two and a half years ago, my Spanish class watched a documentary about a little town in Paraguay. At one point in the show, a flood wrecked the whole town. No one died, thank goodness, but the people put their blood, sweat, and tears into rebuilding the town. The thing that made me so upset was that the cameraman wasn’t helping. It was clear that he could have lent a hand, but he didn’t.
From then on, I promised myself to find a way to help people like those in the town that was flooded. With my Bar Mitzvah coming up, I now have the perfect opportunity. For my Bar Mitzvah project, I will fundraise as much money as I can to donate to Latin American countries recovering from natural disasters.
My goal is to raise at least 2,000 dollars. I decided to do many things such as a documentary party at home showing the scene from the film that was so upsetting, bake sales, lemonade stands, lawn mowing, dog walking, and this fundraising page.
American Jewish World Service (AJWS) is the leading Jewish organization working to promote human rights and end poverty in the developing world. I chose this organization because it works on disaster relief in Latin America.
Every donation will mean the world to me and everyone experiencing all these hard times.
