For decades, the Rohingya people of Burma (Myanmar) have faced state-sponsored persecution and violence because of their ethnicity and religion. In August, 2017, the situation exploded into an organized campaign of genocide, forcing hundreds of thousands of Rohingya people to flee Burma. Today, nearly one million people live in refugee camps across the border in Bangladesh. As Jews and global citizens, we must act now to support our partners to advocate for people in the camps to return home to Burma, to pursue accountability for the perpetrators of these crimes, and ensure full recognition of the Rohingya people’s human rights.
*If we receive donations in excess of funds needed for Rohingya humanitarian aid, please know they will be used to support AJWS’s work worldwide to help communities recover from disasters, alleviate poverty and fight injustice.
