This past July, after a series of legal challenges that went all the way to the Supreme Court, the U.S. government revoked Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians living in the U.S. The decision immediately put 350,000 people at risk of being forcibly returned to a country experiencing severe and ongoing humanitarian, social, environmental, and political crises. The situation is so dire that the State Department also issued a “Do Not Travel” advisory for the country. Revoking TPS for Haitians living in the U.S. puts the lives of returnees in grave danger and adds to the strain on resources, security needs, and humanitarian challenges in Haiti.
But you can do something to help. Senate bill 4814 would extend TPS protections for Haitians until 2029. Please urge your senators to support it and keep up the momentum to get it passed.
